For a lot of athletes, training for race day is a huge deal. You train for months and months – sometimes years – to prepare for some of the biggest events that your body will endure. Some individuals have an affinity toward extreme adventure and mud runs, while some love the long distance endurance that must be included as a foundation to help you cross the finish line of a 13.2 mile run.

Indianapolis Sporting Events

In Indianapolis, most years, we celebrate big sporting events like Pacers Basketball, Indianapolis Colts, Indy 500, and the 2019 Mini Marathon. “The Mini” as they call it in Indiana (we all know what someone if talking about when referenced) is one of the biggest races in the midwest. It feels like a gateway to summertime, as it occurs during the month of racing, Memorial Day and Mother’s Day. The Mini Marathon is SO big.

Andrew had bigger plans for this already big day with the love of his life. Desiree was in for a huge surprise as they reached mile 7 which, if you haven’t participated in The Mini before, you may not know that this is the stretch that athletes run/walk the 2.5 mile oval track that the Indy 500 cars race on each May.
Desiree gave us her recap. We hope you enjoy it!

Engagement Day: May 4, 2019

Indianapolis Motor Speedway During the 2019 Mini Marathon

From Desiree:
It was a cold and rainy day. We were walking up to the start line of the 2019 Indianapolis Mini-Marathon already soaked from head to toe. Believe me when I tell you that we have never ran the first seven miles so fast… I mean we were running (insert Forrest Gump).

To me it made sense though, we were cold and we wanted to get it done. To Andrew, he had a totally different perspective. We are now on the track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Andrew is now having ‘a hamstring cramp’ and he is suggesting that we kiss the bricks to give him a rest and stretch.

Now let me add, this was our fourth time doing this race and we have never stopped to kiss the bricks.

We get passed kissing the bricks and there he is… on one knee.. in the pouring rain.. half way through 13.1 miles… asking me to marry him!
